Café Sabarsky

At the Neue Galerie

Location:

1048 5th Avenue, New York

Café Sabarsky, located on the ground level of Ronald Lauder’s ‘Neue Galerie’ – Museum for German and Austrian Art – is the perfect spot for afternoon sweets around the holidays. The Café, named after Neue Galerie co-founder Serge Sabarsky, is modeled after traditional Viennese cafés of the early 20th century, which often served as principal meeting spots for artists and intellectuals. The space, aside from offering authentic Austrian cuisine and delicious desserts, is perched on a beautiful block on upper 5th Avenue with views of Central Park. The old-style interior is outfitted with period furnishings, including lighting fixtures by Josef Hoffmann, Café Chairs by Adolf Loos, and banquettes upholstered with fabric designed by Otto Wagner in 1912. After a stop in the café, take a trip upstairs to the main galleries for a walk through the museum’s permanent collection as well as the current exhibition on view. Café Sabarsky is a ‘Must Go’ for anyone yearning for a beautiful and delicious spot to spend an afternoon or evening around the holidays.

Café Sabarsky is open: Thursday - Sunday from 9AM - 9PM Monday & Wednesday from 9AM - 6PM The Museum and Café are closed on Tuesdays.
