Inflatable Stool by Verner Panton

Danish industrial designer Verner Panton created his first inflatable footstool in 1954. Widely praised for his novel use of unconventional materials and new age construction techniques, Panton continued perfecting the stool’s engineering and design throughout the decade, finally releasing the completed work onto the market in 1960. While the initial series was small, though no less playful and elegant than Panton’s more widely known designs, the inflatable footstool captured the hearts of 20th century design junkies, namely Miuccia Prada – who featured Panton’s inflatable design as seating for her Spring/Summer 2019 men’s collection.

Just as Miuccia revives silhouettes and fabrication techniques from collection’s past, Prada has worked exclusively with VerPan to re-edition Panton’s iconic 1960s design. Both light and transparent, the re-mastered stool comes with a specially designed Prada carrying case, allowing for great mobility and flexibility to suit different environments, circumstances and spaces. The Verner Panton x Prada Inflatable Stool is a must have piece of design – and now, fashion – history.
