Juergen Teller Go-Sees

The West London studio of fashion photographer Juergen Teller has seen more models approach its doors than most photographers’ camera lenses have shot. For one year, from May 1998 – May 1999, Teller documented the hundreds of girls sent to him by casting agents – some arriving solo, others who showed up with friends or young women accompanied by their mothers – hoping for their big break. This earnest, un-glamorized depiction of the fashion industry in the late 90s produced a series of striking, raw images that make up a conceptual work titled ‘Juergen Teller Go-Sees’. Within the book’s nearly 500 pages are individual, single-page portraits, featuring young rising stars from Mariacarla Boscono and Devon Aoki to Adriana Lima, mixed with less familiar faces, each with their own style, personality and insecurities, all captured through the raw lens of Juergen Teller.
