Martin Margiela: In His Own Words
Belgian designer Martin Margiela, perhaps the fashion world's most mysterious figure, is as well known for his refusal to interact with the press or participate in interviews, as he is for his iconic collections and the split-toed silhouette of his trademark Tabi boots. While few have managed to crack into Margiela's reclusive world, Director Reiner Holzemer's new film honoring the designer, “Martin Margiela: In His Own Words,” offers viewers a glimpse into his private life and work like never before.
The film visualizes the designer's 20 year long career, alongside his more recent whereabouts and endeavors. It also depicts Margiela’s various positions within the industry, such as his time as creative director of Hermes between 1997 and 2003, and his overall impact upon the fashion world. In particular, Holzemer’s film emphasizes Margiela’s ability to defy the generic confines of design through his innovative take on trends and styles. The film is a fashion lovers dream and is being shown in select theaters such as the SVA Theatre and IFC Center - See link for more details.
