The phase is a moment where we push the boundaries of our identity, trying on a new version of ourselves to show the world. The phase can be a seasonal fix, or become a feature of our personalality. American fashion designer and icon Marc Jacobs has emphasized the “phase” through his personal style evolution - as documentend on Jacobs' Instagram account - that also extends to his brand's seasonal runway collections and advertising campaigns.
Charting his style development from 2006 to 2019, Minnie Muse has analyzed Jacobs’ mom-it’s-not-a-phase looks, beginning with a nerdy, Freud-reading Marc Jacobs and ending with a caviar-eating and Babushka-scarf-wearing MJ. In between, we also saw a sculpted, Birkin-bag-rocking Marc, a grunge, dirty-martini-sipping Jacobs’ and a hypebeast, Balenciaga stan MJ. Through the progression of his aesthetic choices, Marc Jacobs has given us a taste of his chameleon-like persona. In an effort to hone in on each of his five emblematic phases, we created a 'Which Marc Jacobs Are You?' quiz, so that you too can subscribe to one of the five Marc Jacobs personas.

If you got mostly A’s, you're Nerdy, School boy Marc Jacobs, who thrives in library settings and is loyal to his Postmates account. Opposingly, if you chose mostly B’s, your persona aligns with Sculpted, Tattooed, Prada and Comme des Garcons kilt wearing Marc Jacobs. His first stop of the day is Equinox and his snack of choice is protein powder. If you selected primarily C’s, you are most connected with Grunge, Saint Laurent-wearing Marc Jacobs, who isn’t afraid of black eyeliner and loves a good strobe light pary. Likewise, if you chose mostly D’s, you identify with the Hype, Balenciaga-wearing Marc Jacobs, who has a Supreme bot and is a regular at Kappo Masa. Lastly, if you scored mostly E’s, you are a more is MORE, Gucci-wearing Marc Jacobs. You are quite a fan of edible gold and no color or pattern is off-limits in your wardrobe. We hope you love taking our quiz and figuring out your inner Marc Jacobs, whether it be a phase or not!
