Milan meets the Wild West sums up the explorative womenswear collection Miuccia Prada showed for fall/winter 1993. This categorically Italian interpretation of the American frontier utilized heavy textures, such as suede and crushed velvet, with hints of fur and pony hair. This season’s color pallet was organic, focusing on endless values of brown, rusty red, rich eggplant and mustard yellow. The silhouettes were conservative, with ankle length skirts, long jackets, and vests finished with safari-style lace up closures layered over sweater dresses and turtlenecks. Model’s hands were free of accessories excluding the occasional set of oversized suede gloves; instead, their heads were bearing brown, soft brim bucket hats covered in metal grommets and floral appliqué. Socks with platform suede sandals and low-heeled boots of leather and suede almost disappeared on models’ feet as the perfect footwear choices for a conservative woman yearning for the outdoors.
