The girl is at once refined and undone with a mood that translates through the silhouettes and patterns of her garments. Through this fun, dynamic show, Miuccia Prada offers several concepts throughout that vary from day to night, and office to seashore, all tied together by a feeling of deconstruction for a gradual movement towards the warmer, more laid back months of the year.
Prada’s Spring/Summer 2010 Collection tells a story of slowly letting the sun and the sea help you unwind. Suit pants are cut to the form of bermuda shorts, then boy shorts, and soon cheeky underwear. As they hemlines rise, they are done in noticeably raw cuts that further suggest this kind of carefree deconstruction.
But it isn’t just the bottoms gone bikini-bottoms that hinted at beach vacation for the working woman. In fact, Miuccia Prada made this suggestion quite obvious through the patterns of her fabrics. What started as neutrals and black suits were overwhelmed by summer patterns from simple florals to full on photographic beach scenes of palm trees and beachgoers lined up across the sand. In taking such an image, tinting it in dreamy hues, and using it to construct jackets, dresses, and shorts, Miuccia Prada seems to highlight a somewhat escapist fantasy on her runway.
Finally, Prada takes her beach-going professionally into the evening in a classic form- that is… through the unapologetic use of diamonds. Sparkly numbers drip down in chains that appear almost as an elevated cover-up. The weight and shine of these garments dance between the lines of clothing and jewelry. But complemented by transparent shoes, colorful sunglasses, and bodysuits, even these most elegant looks were presented as though the models had just emerged from the water.
Through Miuccia Prada’s unique approach to suits and to summer, the Prada Spring/Summer 2010 runway was fun in a chic and simple way. She brings us a collection of individually wonderful garments that, when headed together down the runway, feel as if the Prada woman is stepping out of the office for a fabulous summer weekend. She deconstructs, she lets loose, and it's all okay because look after look is pulled together with a flawless classic Prada chicness defined in a simple red lip.
