For Proenza Schouler’s spring/summer 2017 collection, creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez put special emphasis to color and materiality. In an abrupt departure from their typically understated color pallet, bright pops of red, blue, orange and yellow were injected into nearly every garment on the spring ‘17 runway. Their use of shocking, primary colors was elevated by the inclusion of textured fabrics, like bouncy pleats and knit bodices, and hand crafted elements, such as feather fringe and commanding Calder-esque metal earrings. All thirty-eight looks in the tightly edited collection were shown on substantial, leather and pony-hair platform sandals, styled with the trademark, downtown cool, intrinsic to the brand’s DNA.
