For the spring/summer 2018 collection season, New York’s all-star fashion house Proenza Schouler moved their previously stateside runway show to align with Paris’s haute couture fashion calendar. The brand’s first collection since relinquishing their New York Fashion Week ‘show-spot’ was a celebration of French craftsmanship.
The romantic, primarily black, white and red collection, employed lush fabrics, elevated textures and boudoir detailing to develop a sophisticated offering of fashionably idyllic garments. From peplum dresses with flowing ruffles and high frontal slits, to sumptuous floral jacquard coats worn over flared lace pants and touches of micro-ruffling, ribbon embroidery, grommet-encrusted hemlines and bedazzled floral dresses, as the show progressed the collection was repeatedly injected with opulent craftsmanship and fanciful detailing. As demonstrated by spring 2018, it took creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez only once season to fully realize what ‘Parisian Cool’ means at Proenza Schouler, with a collection of romantically cool garments that their loyal fan base is sure to clamor over.
