Otaku

The Japanese term ‘otaku’ refers to a young person with obsessive interests related to particular aspects of popular culture, anime and manga – Japanese comics or graphic novels – often fueled by the overuse of modern day technology. The subculture’s reliance on television, computers, and the Internet, further stimulated this antisocial mythology throughout the 1980s, 1990s and early aughts.
